Given that he bowls with tremendous pace and
hostility, Mick Lewis shapes as being an increasingly important
cricketer for Victoria over forthcoming seasons. His entry to
first-class cricket was stalled by the presence in the Bushrangers'
squad of an outstanding list of fast bowlers and, perhaps even more
significantly, by an unusual background which did not see him attend
an Institute of Sport program or play a single match at junior
representative level for his state. Instead, Lewis learnt his trade
in regional Victoria and it was only after he switched to Northcote
in the late 1990s that he sought to translate to elite level his
ability to pressure batsmen readily with his length, speed, and
aggressive attitude. A hard working and determined right armer, he
seized five wickets in the first innings of the 2000-01 Pura Cup
Final in Brisbane in arguably his most impressive performance to
date
