Profile

Craig McMillan, a player who had been gifted international selection from the age of 21, found himself on the outside after the 2003 World Cup. His poor form that had marked his home summer was replicated and he was left out of the team to tour Sri Lanka. It was the first hiccup in what had been a productive career, symbolised by his world record set at Hamilton in March 2001 when he took 26 runs off one Younis Khan over in a Test against Pakistan. McMillan has always been a player who relished taking the challenge to the opposition, physically as well as verbally. However, after a winter testing his own resolve rather than his opponents to regain a spot, he was recalled to tour India in 2003-04 and scored 83 not out and an unbeaten century to reclaim his spot in the team against South Africa and in the 2004 tour of England. After a disappointing first Test at Lord's, he then broke his finger batting in a tour match against Leicestershire.
