Profile

Thilina Kandamby is a technically sound middle-order batsman who plays very straight but can also hit the ball powerfully and adapt his game well to the limited-overs format. He leapfrogged more established fringe players to clinch a place in the national squad for the first time during Sri Lanka's tour to Zimbabwe in 2004. His sudden elevation followed some impressive innings for Sri Lanka A during tours to India and New Zealand. He enjoyed a successful school career for Ananda College first XI from 1994 to 2000 and represented the Sri Lankan Under-19 team during various tours from 1998 to 2001. However, he failed to graduate into the A team until 2003 after a difficult start to his first-class career. Kandamby had early ambitions of playing professional tennis and was ranked in the national top ten as a teenager
